Hey, i have a set of Type S 6x9" on my rear parcel shelf, And i was wondering if anyone has tried amping these to see how well they respond? And if it made much difference... Cheers

No idea on how the Type S respond to being amped...so long as the amp is tuned in properly (and you don't have any subs) you should be able to get it to sound okay. I'm not a huge fan of 6x9's myself, but then again I go for SQ rather than SPL.
Generally almost any speaker will sound better with an external amp driving it instead of relying on the h/u to supply the power, but as I said, tune it properly and it should be fairly good. |

Okay, so if you're not going to for a sub then the 6x9's will do.
Just out of interest where do you come from? Subs in commodores aren't cool? How about a little 10" in the parcel shelf? |

old topic but why and how much of a difference does amping up speakers make?
Also is it possible to have an amp for ur speakers and ur sub if the h/u only has one set of outputs? |

Yeah thats possible. You just need an amp with 4 channels... |

From the outputs on the rear of the h/u run a pair of RCA cables to the boot (or wherever you're going to have your amps) then use splitter cables to get as many as you need. It'll work a treat.
There are actually a few 5ch amps on the market, designed to be an all in one amp, four channels running the sound stage speakers, and one channel running the sub(s).
The reason that amps can make such a difference is because they can apply a much more finely controlled power to the speakers. They are designed to drive speakers. Where as your head unit is designed to decode whatever music you're listening too, convert it to a signal and then amp it before sending it to the speakers.
Allowing for the size of the average head unit, compared to the size of your average 4ch amp, it's clear that there's a whole lot more clever circuitry in an amp, rather than in the 'amp' board in your head unit. |
