HELLO i was just wondering since i heard its hard to fot a speaker in the rear parcel shelf it came to my head that wat if i did everything upside down. i know it sounds funny but would it work if i did it and made wholes in the shelf but install the speakers (6.5's) backwards would it effect the sound quality and another thing i heard u guys saying a box for the sub makes the sound qualitty better cos i saw a subWOOFER the other day and it liked really nice was all chromy on the back so i was thinking if i did that backwards too would it affect the sould quality and if yes it does then wat type of speakers wouldnt effect it cos i reckon having them backwards looks pretty cool and weird but more cool lol. b4dn xxxx

You can mount subs pretty well any way you want, but only if you build the box to suit. Most of the boxes that you get at places like JB and strathfield aren't worth the screws that hold them together.
to get the most out of your sub you need to get a custom box made up.
As for having the speakers upside down so that the cones drive the sound into the parcel shelf as opposed to the cabin. YEAH you can go that way if you want, but it's going to sound muddy.
While it is possible to mount subs in the parcel shelf, don't. If you want to start doing crap like that, get yourself some dodgy little hatch-back, that's about the only time I'd EVER suggest it, even then there are better options.
Stage speakers (ie. everything that isn't a sub) should fire into the cabin. Subs should be mounted in the boot, and fire backwards (so that the big chrome shiney bit, called the basket) is pointing towards the front of the car. That will produce the best results. |

Any direction change will affect the sound in some way or another... some more noticable than others.
Give it a try and let us know. |
