ok i have a list of mods i want to do to my vn, just curious on any thoughts of how it might go from some experienced vn owners
1: 70mm throttle body
2: msd ignition coils
3: memcal chip
4: lukey 2 1/2 exhuast
5: 9mm leads

is there anything that you would suggest doing or not doing? any other tips and tricks?
also pulling the cone out of the vn intake manifold, does it make much difference??

Personally I would not be pulling the bellmouth out of the intake. All it will do is change the torque curve slightly. Power figures are much the same.
Are you getting extractors with the exhaust system??
I have heard that the coils out of the supercharged 6's were a better coil than the MSD's.
What sort of tune were you looking at getting??

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.

Exhaust is the "cheapest" power upgrade you can do to any engine. Just remember not to go too extreme, with anything silly like a "fart can" muffler like those you see on ricers. Most engines need a little back pressure, but 2 1/2 inch pipe is more freeflow, being only 6mm bigger than the factory system. Also, remember not to make it too loud, or the cops will never leave you alone.

The 9mm leads would be a good idea, any increase in spark will help.

ok i might look into the super 6 coils. as for the exhuast yeh 2 1/2 would be max with a muffler to keep it quiet, the last thing i want is a screamer going down the road, alsowhat are the opinions on the memcal chips?

wasting your money. exhaust upgrade is good fcuk of that stock cat and put a 100 cpi cat in or a staight pipe fit extractors. throttle body is good makes a snappy throttle and i would take the bellmouth(restrictor)out. memcal dont waist your money till you've done enough to have to dyno your car to drive it. i have a 3" custom exhaust 1 muffler and a cat, pacemaker extractors.

High flow cats aren't usually cheap, but they remove a bottleneck in the exhaust system. Over time, a stock catalytic converter will clog up and need to be replaced anyway. Luckily emission systems did evolve a bit from 1986. When the VL Commodore first came out, if you had the misfortune to be behind one, while not smoky, it did smell a lot like it dropped its guts after an evening of beer and pizza. They were a shocker because of the hydrogen sulphide coming from the catalytic converter. However Holden soon found out about it, and no VN has been known to fart like that

the memcal chip i was talking about isnt a tuneable one so it would be a waste of time going to a dyno for it, i was talking about the chips you can buy off ebay, gives u an extra 1000 rpm to play with, and is meant to give you a little bit more powerfull fuel mapping, it does mean though i would have to run a high octane fuel, just curios if anybody has tried them and had any success

if you want a bit of extra power the exhaust is good anything over 2 1/2 inch is just a waste unless you have forced induction-(turbo or super charger)
as for the throttle body the 70mm is only good if you have done work to the heads as the motor will only take in as much air as the heads will allow it to your best bet is to just get a stock 304 v8 throttle body 65mm much cheaper and the heads will work with it

as for the coils with msd ones all your paying for is the name and to have red coils sitting in your engine bay do what VNSVLE said and get some l67 coils with 9mm leads

if its memcal you want DONT buy one off ebay go to http://www.maceengineering.com.au/epages/shop.sf/en_AU/?ObjectPath=/Shops/mace/Products/MEM601 and have a talk to them about it,

if its real power your after and you have the money get this http://www.maceengineering.com.au/epages/shop.sf/en_AU/?ObjectPath=/Shops/mace/Products/CCP601/SubProducts/CCP601

i got the stage 3 (cam, memcal, valve springs) for my vr v6 irs model with low k's and its making around 165kw 221hp and that's with a 2-1/2 inch exhaust and stock extractors, ive been mucking around with these v6 engines for years now and this has been one of the best mods i have done

your stock valve springs wont allow your car to rev any higher and with no mods you probably wouldnt gain any power just because it revs higher. my car makes power up to 6500rpm and then my valve springs fail after that, valve bounce

Yeah, start of a slippery slope, new stiffer valve springs, then solid lifters then new valve train.etc.
